Kitchen Worker

Position Summary: To work with Head Teacher/Program Coordinator and Director of Child Care Services to plan and implement the food service aspect of the Child Care Program.

Available Shift: Monday through Friday 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Qualifications: Good oral and written communication skills needed. Must be organized and have proficient math skills. Knowledge regarding safe food-handling practices necessary.

This position is one which has been identified as having responsibility for the assessment, treatment, or care of clients. Therefore, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the care appropriate to the age of the clients served within the program. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the ability to assess data reflective of the client's status in addition to being able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each client's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and be able to provide the care needed as described in the program's policies and procedures.


  • Knowledge and understanding of the concept of center-based Child Care.
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of client confidentiality procedures.
  • Ability to recognize and act upon signs of abuse, neglect and domestic violence.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions.
  • Knowledge of sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, and social economic issues.
  • Ability to work independently without continual supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and writing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan appropriate, well balanced, cost effective, and child oriented morning and afternoon snack menus that will meet the needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. (All menus must fulfill the CACFP requirements).
  • Ensure compliance with all Health Department and CACFP requirements.
  • Monitor quality and appropriateness of catered lunch.
  • Divide food received from catering vendor into containers sufficient in quantity for each classroom and distribute lunches to classrooms with appropriate dishes, utensils, etc.
  • Prepare and/or organize morning and afternoon snacks daily.
  • Ensure cleanliness of kitchen equipment and utensils, including dishes after meals and snacks.
  • Order food for snacks and submit receipts for payment promptly.
  • Put away food orders and supply orders, rotating stock to ensure freshness.
